FOSS United Monthly Tech report

Hi everyone,

I’m Dilip (aka Zororg | user: @idlip), I bring in the first Tech report from FossUnited Platform.

Here on, we will be publishing our monthly Tech report for progress and catching up. Hopefully it aids in two-way communication to improve and enhance feature and overall platform.

More than a report, this is mostly to say what’s being worked on and focused day-to-day. This opens up space to contribute and fill gaps in the ecosystem.

Tech report - Aug 2025

Here is the blog post made for it:

For overview of the status check our project board: FOSS United Platform · GitHub

It covers the simple gist:

  1. Improvements in RSS feed to handle full content by blogs and newsletters.
FOSS United Blog (go subs in your RSS reader now!)

  2. Adding Governing board members to the teams page.
Meet the first-ever elected Governing Board @FOSS United

As always feel free to open new issues over our repo to improve and enable smoother platform experience.

For more nerdy read, there is always Changelog: fossunited/docs/docs/changelog.md at develop · fossunited/fossunited · GitHub which will be updated as soon as some feature goes in.

Moving ahead, I’d like to improve documentation for FossUnited to enable easy contribution by others and hopefully to sustain record of information.

Tech report - Oct 2025

Hi folks,

Forum should not be quiet, here’s your monthly platform tech report for Hack-tober 2025.
Remember the joy and moments of IndiaFOSS 2025?
Here’s the photo album for the events ~ 950 snaps!
Yet if you feel that you missed/forgot some talk, here’s the full live stream playlist.

Here’s the accompanying blog post for the same report gist:

  • Volunteers Page: A shiny new page to celebrate our active volunteers, with filtering by chapter or city (user profile city).
    Credits: Jeswin Jose (Designer)
    Volunteers - Show of force
This marks the beginning of Dark mode adoption for the platform (v3.0), slowly it should reach to many pages and whole platform with simple toggle!

  • Chapter Mailing: We’ve had Events Mailing page to send campaign message to Participants and CFP proposers in https://fossunited.org/dashboard/event/<event_ID>/mailing pages.
Now we have Chapter level (https://fossunited.org/dashboard/chapter/<NAME>/mailing) to mail and maintain email group for past participants who wish to get updates from organizers.

Users can wish to opt-in or out via checkbox button given in RSVP form.

  • Event & RSVP Updates: We’ve made RSVP toggling more intuitive and grouped RSVP data into “Attending” and “Not attending” categories for better insights.
Attendee can “Edit RSVP” and let organizers know whether they attend or not via button.

  • Docs Overhaul: The docs have been revamped for easier navigation, better search, and a streamlined experience.
^ hey, show some love, and take this moment to contribute something if you feel is missing (there are a lot) in the docs and get engaged with FOSS!

For more updates, please check out CHANGELOG in the repo or in documentation page.

You can catch up on Forklore updates here.

Heads up! We will be more focusing on IndiaFOSS related issues so other events upcoming can have it smoother. You can push some issues/changes too. Project Dashboard.

Tech report - Nov 2025

Hi everyone,

Here’s the accompanying blog post for the same report: https://fossunited.org/blog/tech-report/nov-25

November brought some significant feature additions focused on event management, funding discovery, and design consistency. We’ve shipped v3.0 design to more pages, introduced self-service tools for organizers, and launched our Grants Funding Directory.

  • Events Page Redesign (#1265): The events page now follows v3.0 design language with dark mode support! Better event cards, improved sponsor/speaker sections, and cleaner social links.
→ Example page: MiniDebConf Navi Mumbai 2025
This continues our gradual adoption of v3.0 design across the platform with dark mode toggle.

  • Grants Funding Directory (#1283): Inspired by floss.fund, we now have a directory where projects can list their funding needs using standardized funding.json manifests. Each project gets a dedicated page with filtering and validation.
    Grants Directory
If you maintain a FOSS project seeking funding, consider adding yours!

  • RSVP Self Check-in System (#1286, #1287, #1288): Event attendees can now check themselves in during event hours via their RSVP edit page. Organizers get a dedicated dashboard showing check-in data by date with CSV download. Makes attendance tracking much easier!
    Documentation

  • Host Approval Workflow (#1282): Organizers can enable “host requires approval” for RSVP forms. Review and approve/reject RSVPs from the insights page with automated emails. Great for capacity-limited events or when you need more control over attendee list.

  • Free Ticket Management (#1259, #1260): Complete free ticket workflow is now self-service! Create coupon codes, set limits, track usage, manage codes - all from the dashboard. Recipients don’t even need a platform account to claim tickets. Perfect for sponsor tickets or complimentary passes.

  • First Commit Initiative (#1271): Launched dedicated page for First Commit at fossunited.org/first-commit with v3 styling.

For more updates, please check out CHANGELOG in the repo or in documentation page.

You can catch up on Forklore updates here.

We continue to focus on making event organization smoother and adding features based on community feedback. Check the Project Dashboard for what’s next.
