It’s happening! We received almost 100 nominations for the awards and have filtered them down to a select few. Community voting for FOSS Awards opens on August 17th, Monday.
What
India’s FOSS and digital commons infrastructure rests on the shoulders of few. FOSS Awards is our way of celebrating them.
Voting happens across the following categories -
- Maintainer of the Year
- Project of the Year
- Evangelist of the Year
- FOSS United Community Volunteer of the Year
- Student Community of the Year
- Lifetime Achievement Award
The award ceremony will happen at the IndiaFOSS festival. Travel and Accommodation will be covered for the winners. They can nominate someone else to receive the award on their behalf if they are unable to attend the event.
Who can vote
Voting is invite-only and is restricted to the following people -
- The FOSS United Maintainer Community (see forklore). If you’re a maintainer of an open-commons project, please join the Maintainers group to be a part of the process.
- Leads of active city communities and student clubs. (at least 1 year old, and at least one event in the last 3 months)
- Active FOSS United volunteers (1+ year of active volunteering with any FOSS United program)
- Current and former sponsors/funders/donors - One vote per organisation. Individual donors (eg. diversity sponsors) are included.
- FOSS United Foundation staff, Governing Board, and IndiaFOSS co-chairs.
Please keep an eye out for an email from us this week. If you think you fit in the above categories (except Maintainers who can join directly) but did not get an invite, you can submit a request to Foss awards - FOSS United
How to vote
- The voting happens on the FOSS United forum. The threads will be visible to everyone, but only the people mentioned above will be able to vote on the polls. Existing members of the maintainer group already have the necessary access. For others, the process will be highlighted in the invitation email.
- That’s it! There will be a separate thread for each category, and you can vote there. We’ll add them to this thread and to the webpage once voting is live.
