Went to IndiaFOSS 2026 last weekend. Great event, and I came back wanting to
actually contribute something instead of just attending.
I’m collecting data on my university for the education program, and while
doing that I kept hitting the same wall. Where does this stuff live, who do
I send it to. I searched around and could not find the one thing I was
holding in my hand, a pamphlet for Licence to Learn that they were handing
out at the stall. Nothing useful on Google.
So I went to fossunited.org to browse the initiatives page and see what all
is listed. Licence to Learn was not there either. Fair enough, maybe I
missed it. But while I was on that page I clicked through a few of the other
links and Mon School was dead. Then a couple more on other pages.
To be clear, this is not a complaint. I know the site, the events and most
of this org run on volunteers and contributors, and my own earlier PRs into
the repo got merged. So instead of filing a list of things that are broken,
I did the obvious thing and fixed them.
I ran a link audit across the whole repository. Every URL in the docs, the
templates and the code, checked over the network and against the files on
disk. Then I went through the broken ones by hand and picked replacements,
fetching each candidate before writing it in. A few targets were gone for
good or had started redirecting somewhere unpleasant. Mon School now lands
on a parked domain, so that one points at an Internet Archive snapshot
instead of pretending it works.
Four commits across 12 files.
- a full pass over dead and malformed links
- Licence to Learn added to the initiatives list
- Mon School moved to an archive snapshot
- FOSS Pledge pointed back at fossunited.org
I left a couple of links alone because I wasn’t sure what the right
destination was. If you spot something I got wrong, or you’d rather see a
different replacement, say so and I’ll change it.
