Call for Communities | Maintainer May meetups

tldr: Call for communities to organise Maintainer May meetups, in your city. Respond to this thread by April 19 to show your interest.

Last year, FOSS United participated in Maintainer May activities. Led by Github, organisations around the world observe May as a Maintainer Month. This was also followed by an excellent IndiaFOSS pre-event, Maintainer Summit (cc: @Nemo)

The conversations from the Maintainer Summit (and some more) informed us better on how to shape FOSS United’s Maintainer Programs.

Building up on this context, we are hoping to put together and participate in a series of Maintainer May activities this year too.

Maintainer May Meetups 2026 | Call for communities

This Maintainer May, we hope to organise city-level meetups for maintainers (and friends) of India’s digital commons. The idea is to come together, as keepers of Indian open-source, discuss what it takes to keep the lights on, vent about the good, the bad, rally ideas and resources, and also look at what a Maintainer Summit 2026 could look like. This is an open invitation for FOSS and commons communities to come join us in putting together these meetups.

If you are a FOSS or commons community, interested in organising a Maintainer May meetup in your city, please reply to this thread before April 19th EOD, with the following details:

  1. Community name
  2. Your name and role
  3. A short brief about the community
  4. City you are active in.

I am a volunteer at the Bengaluru FOSSUnited City chapter. We would like to organize the maintainers meet.

Date: 23rd May, 2026 - Saturday
Time: 2pm - 6pm
City: Bangalore.
