For three years now, IndiaFOSS has grown a little more inclusive with each edition, and a lot of that has come down to this scholarship. It exists for one simple reason: talent and curiosity in the FOSS community aren’t evenly distributed by opportunity, and we’d rather close that gap than let it decide who gets to show up. Students, women, and people from underrepresented communities have found their way to IndiaFOSS through this program, and this year, we’re opening it up again.
What the scholarship covers
Depending on need, recipients may receive full support (ticket, travel, and accommodation), partial support, or just the conference ticket. We assess each application individually rather than offering one fixed package to everyone.
How sponsorship works
Sponsors can contribute any amount they’d like, there’s no fixed tier or minimum. Whatever you give goes directly toward getting someone into the room.
As a reference point a conference ticket costs ₹3,000 per person.
On the applicant side, we ask what someone actually needs to attend comfortably, since travel costs vary a lot depending on where people are coming from. We’ll continue reaching out directly to organizations working with underrepresented communities, and applications remain open to nominations, so anyone who knows someone deserving can put their name forward.
Accessibility and childcare
We continue to work toward making the conference more accessible where needed, based on what recipients tell us they require. Please submit your requests here.
Childcare support and quiet zones, which we introduced previously, are continuing this year as well.
Ahead of the event, volunteers also reach out to scholarship recipients individually to help them get oriented before they arrive, and are on hand during the conference itself to help with finding their way around the conference.
