With over 50 colleges now actively participating in the FOSS Club Program, we are excited to take the next step in strengthening our support system. To ensure smooth coordination and greater impact, we are forming a committee of 5 members to lead this initiative. I will be the chair and the 6th member of this committee.
The committee will help distribute responsibilities, streamline program management, and create a space for experienced club leads to contribute effectively. This will also reduce bottlenecks and facilitate better communication across clubs.
Committee Roles:
Each member will own a key aspect of the program, including:
- Committee Chair: Overall coordination (Vishal Arya)
- First Commit: Conducting a (bimonthly) series of virtual events to introduce students to FOSS contributors and projects (more details at First Commit details)
- In-campus Event: Supporting and managing college-level events except speakers’ management
- Communication and Documentation: Handling community communications, documentation, and reporting
- Technology: Ensures that the platforms used by club members are maintained and enhanced with new features to support core members in running events effectively. Edit: You will be assigned a software developer or you can find more people to develop the platform. The role would be coordinate with the developer about the bug fixes or suggest new features.
- Speaker and Resource: Manages speaker requests, outreach, logistics support for speakers, and coordinates resources required by the clubs.
Who Should Apply?
We invite self-nominations from individuals who have previously managed or significantly contributed to a FOSS Club at their college campus. Contributors to FOSS projects, even if not part of a college club, are also encouraged to apply. While prior involvement with FOSS Clubs or projects is an ideal qualification, it is not mandatory. What matters most is a passion for FOSS, organizational skills, and a commitment to active participation in the committee.

I can fit in this Committee Try Me !
1. Experience: Been running the FOSS United chapter at STIST since 2023. Even though I graduated in April, I still mentor students there. Set up FOSS Hack Localhost 2024 as Kerala’s node, work with ICFOSS on outreach stuff, and handled Yukthi’25 TechFest - got 500+ people and managed sponsorships for workshops and competitions for FOSS Events. Got around 15 students comfortable with GitHub through MuLearn.
2. Interested Role: First Commit - Open source scares the hell out of most beginners. I’ve walked hundreds of students through their first PR and know exactly where they get stuck. These bimonthly sessions could be game-changers if done right - less theory, more “here’s how you actually do it.” not another “what is git” or any similar talk.
3. Time Commitment:
Max 6 hours per week, can stretch during event periods.
4. Unique Strengths: I bridge technical depth with grassroots experience. My AI/ML background (won Best Paper at NCAISF’25) helps me relate to diverse project types, while years of running workshops taught me how to make complex stuff accessible. Plus, continuing my involvement even after finishing college shows I’m genuinely invested in growing the FOSS community, not just padding my resume.

I’d like to take up either the Technology or Communication & Documentation role. I have a strong technical background in Linux and security, while also being comfortable with handling documentation and communication between clubs.
-
I can dedicate about 6-8 hours per week for the committee.

My strengths include being a Certified Ethical Hacker, a veteran Linux user with 9+ years of experience, having an eye for design (helping with visuals and graphics), and experience in managing online communities and IM platforms. I would like to nominate myself
I have been involved in the open-source community for the past two years and have been an active contributor within ÎĽLearn. Our college FOSS Club started just last month, and I have been leading and supporting its activities since the beginning. Alongside that, I also maintain the WikiSyllabus project, which focuses on building collaborative, open academic resources.
I am interested in the Communication and Documentation role. Having managed documentation and reporting for community initiatives, I see this as an opportunity to bring clarity and structure to the FOSS Club network. I enjoy writing and documenting processes in a way that makes them reusable and accessible for others.
I can commit 4–6 hours per week consistently to committee responsibilities, and I am comfortable contributing more during peak activities.
My strengths include clear documentation, strong community coordination, and experience with open collaboration platforms like GitHub. I also bring organizational skills and a commitment to creating accessible resources that help clubs function more smoothly.

Thank you to everyone who self-nominated for the committee. We truly appreciate the passion and enthusiasm shown by all applicants.
We are excited to announce the committee members for 2025-26:
- Rachit Khurana: Communication and Documentation
- Praneel Sindhole: First Commit
- Harsh Patel & Ganesh: In-Person Event
- Vaibhav: Technology
- Nilabrata Sanyal: Speaker and Resource
We received 10 outstanding nominations, and after much deliberation, we could only select five roles this time. Because the In-Person Event role involves collaboration with 50+ colleges, we’ve assigned two members to ensure smooth execution.
To everyone who applied but wasn’t selected: your interest and enthusiasm are what make this community strong. We hope you’ll stay involved—there will be plenty of opportunities to contribute, and your unique talents and perspectives are always welcome.
