Event Postmortem

The Good

  • There was a diverse group of hackers from and outside the college.
  • There were working professionals as well hacking along with students.
  • The food was good for the price we paid.
  • The venue was well provisioned with all the basic requirements and security through out the event.
  • The club coordinator faculty was very helpful hoisting all the permission related issues and everything was done within time.

The Bad

  • Funds provided by the college can only be used within college premises or the bodies we are dealing with should be closely related to the college
  • People were having food inside the venue even after informing.
  • Hackers needed overnight coffee and were not interested in snacks.
  • We were not using environment friendly packaging for food and branding.
  • Venue air conditioning was not regulated properly in the early hours of the morning.
  • We did not receive various forms of venue permissions even after hackathon started, as it was my first time conducting an overnight hackathon. Luckily we just got it on time.

The Ugly

  • Too much requirements were requested by the college to just create guests WIFI login.
  • The guests WIFI started working only after 4:45pm due to various unknown requirements. Even after which the wifi remain restricted. which disallowed certain hackers to work peacefully. ( We were in constant contact with the IT dept but had no luck )

@Suslime Feel free to add points to this postmortem, so we be careful next time.
