Retrospective on the March 1st meetup
Some stats:
- Number of RSVP’s: ~120. Attended: 30
- Number of talk proposals: ~10. Selected: 5
- Planned meetup time: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, actual time: 11:30 am - 2:15 pm
The Good
- High quality talks by all the speakers present.
- Talks covered a range of spectrum: people’s personal journey, their projects, digital commons, decentralization.
The Bad
- Forgot about sending reminder emails for RSVP’ed audience - might be a cause of low turnout.
- Event could have been shared early in socials, especially announcement of call for proposals. This could have attracted more talk proposals.

Retrospective on March 28th meetup
Some stats:
- Number of RSVP’s: ~80. Attended: ~35
- Number of talk proposals: 12, Approved: 7 (5 full talks, 2 lightning talks)
- Planned meetup time: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Actual: 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm
- Expense: Rs. 1200 - tea + biscuits
The Good
- The unconference session - while proposing it, we were unsure how the session will go, but it turned out well. The mike was passed from one person to another person where each person shared where they need help and people came forward to help them.
- For example, there was a job seeker who mentioned he was looking for job on distributed computing and there was another person in the group who was hiring. Similarly, one person was looking to hire SDE-2 while there was a college grad looking for opening. It’s nice to see the meetup venues being a place for people to connect and help each other.
- There was also a discussion on how open-source as we know might be dead and that it’s time to start thinking about it.
- Awesome posters by @Ganeshaaa and @justsaumit who hosted the event. Timely posts on socials by @Yashi_srivastava and thanks to all other volunteers who helped organize the event.
- Needless to say, great talks by all speakers from AI observability to using open-source for language archiving.
The Bad
- Start of the event, there were ~35 people. After break ~30. Then, toward the end ~20. Many people missed the unconference session and later talks. We hope to make the meetup more valuable to the audience and the speakers for the time they give to the FOSSUnited community.
- Some talks went over the time and the meetup become too long - we hope to avoid this next time by having less talks (max 6).

- Number of talk proposals: 9, Approved: 5, Presented talks: 4 (1 dropped out)

- Planned meetup time: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Actual: 2:30 pm - 5:00pm
Notes
- Talks were good, venue well-prepared.
- Promotions could have been better - a crowd of 30-40 would have been nice.

Oct 2026 Meetup
Hi all, the Oct 2026 Bengaluru city chapter meetup is planned on 24 Oct 2026 between 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Samagata Foundation, Church Street. The CFP is open now - you can submit your talks here.
The tentative agenda for the meetup is:
- 2-3 talks
- Workshop on Neer Vazhvu project - the maintainer has agreed to creates issues on the project and the participants in the workshop will be guided along to contribute to the issues, thus helping them start their open-source contributions.

Oct 2026 Meetup Retrospective
- 2 talks happened, workshop didn’t as audience turnout was low (~15 people)
- This time, we did promote well but for some reason the turnout was low. Any ideas would be useful.

@Arun I appreciate that you are taking the effort to run the meetups.
However, the quality of the minutes should improve, and must truly reflect what happened.
Really ? Which workshop are you talking about - and who was the speaker ?
@Dilip_G you were there. Do you remember meeting any workshop host ?
How many teas ? 500/30 = 15 rupees (imagining people drink more than one - it was good)
You have missed mentioning some things which are partially documented in the telegram channel. And we discussed a bit in the meetup too. But all that learning seems missing here.
You had planned a workshop on “Neer Vazhu” project. Since you got this in without CFP, it is “invited workshop”. I had requested you to get a clear workshop description from the presenter too. Who was the proposed speaker btw ?

Yes, both OSM proposal (talk+workshop) were from same speaker.
I guess due to nick of time, speaker just gave a brief talk with practical side of mentioning apps. The workshop CFP mentions using the same apps hands-on, but we can consider that as home-work (or every day task).
NGL your talk also went long, so effectively both session shared equal halves and delivered their info.
