Good Indian FOSS projects

I came across this thanks to a new initiative by @Zainab_Bawa1 and Kiran at Hasgeek - Review and feedback for Drone - container orchestrator built at PhonePe – Drove: a simple container orchestrator developed at PhonePe

Thanks for sharing this here, Rahul. Will be good to see FOSS projects reviewed similarly - for FOSS Hacks, India FOSS, and agnostics of the events/activities.

A slew of FOSS projects in the enterprise network security space by Project Discovery: Open Source Tools - ProjectDiscovery Documentation

Five years ago, four of us started collaborating on github to automate security workflows. Since then, we’ve built 20+ open-source projects, now running 20M+ times daily—helping everyone scan & secure their attack surface for free.

This week, we hit 100K GitHub :star2: across all projects! Huge thanks to the amazing open-source & security community

- @geekboy.

Unsure if CalyxOS, an Android distro with focus on privacy counts as it is run by a foundation in the US, but since the project’s very beginning, its lead developer has been Chirayu Desai, who is based in Ahmedabad.

Ente, an e2ee cross-platform photos & videos app, is wunderbar. It has taken off especially after they went all-in on FOSS (I’ll take credit for Ente going full-FOSS, even if Vishnu won’t give any  ).

The Storyweaver platform by Pratham Books. Their backend is built with Ruby on Rails and their frontend using React.js. Deployment is done using docker. Checkout their repositories at Pratham Books · GitHub

P.S. they’re looking for new contributors and the platform is incredibly impactful.

Vipul, the founder of Saeloun, is one of the organizers of the Pune Ruby community and the Ruby India conference. Miru is open-sourced under an MIT license and built with RoR for the backend + React.js for the frontend.

Hi. I’m helping build Keploy (https://keploy.io/). It is being built from Bangalore, has a great community around open source. I’d like to post/boast about it in the FOSS United forums. Where can I put information about the project so that people can try it?

I have two goals:

  1. Raise awareness and get more people to try an open source testing tool.
  2. Find folks who will give us stars!
