FOSS licenses explicitly require an app/software developer to share the license/permission/copyright along with the app/software, see for example the MIT License
The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in all copies or substantial portions of the Software.
- Apple does this - “Settings > General > Legal & Regulatory > Legal Notices” declares all of the copyright licenses and the names of FOSS projects used in iOS.
- Zerodha does this too e.g. on their Kite mobile app - “profile icon > others section > Licenses”
Do you know of other examples of Indian-origin applications (web or mobile) that declare Licenses/Legal Notices? A casual look at Swiggy didn’t show a “Licenses” section.
A lawyer can correct me, but I think it’s a breach of copyright if the app developer uses FOSS software but doesn’t disclose the license text as required by the copyright (citation needed)
