Make a proactive commitment against data maximization and surveillance

In the discussion on governance of FOSS United there was the point raised that FOSS United might be hijacked if there’s an open membership and membership driven decision making.

One way to protect ourselves from such harms (regardless of the governance mechanisms) is to have a few stated commitments that we will never violate. The Debian social contract is an example.

I propose that we adopt this particular commitment as a beginning:

FOSS United stands against data maximization and surveillance.

While FOSS licenses definitely allow it, we will not promote or endorse the use of FOSS for projects that are involved in state surveillance or data maximization.
