I am organizing a potluck lunch at IndiaFOSS 2025. So free here is “free” as in “your” food… Basically each of us attending this “BoF” session will get one dish. We share, eat and discuss everything under the sun.
Ideally the dish you bring will be home cooked. For those travelling, we can make exceptions for store bought sweets and savouries. Let’s unite the diversity of your food and stories onto our combined table!
When
The potluck will happen on Sunday - Day 2 of the conference, i.e. Sep 21.
Time : 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM.
Venue : “Workshop” room. (this will be labelled on the venue map)
Capacity: Around 25-30 people/dishes, due to size limitations of the room itself.
How to Participate
How to participate : Please post the item you wish to bring to the potluck as a reply to this thread. Please include at-least a one liner on what the item is (e.g. starter, main dish, side dish, desserts, etc), and “veg/non-veg” !
Note that you won’t need to bring large quantities of your dish. Imagine that 4-6 guests showed up at your home. Just make and get enough quantity for them. So it’s like lunch box quantity. For items like sweets - get like 10-20 pieces (depending on size, or equivalent). Similarly for savouries.
I will check new items and may ask you questions or suggest slight changes if necessary to ensure the menu remains balanced. As dishes are finalized, I will update the menu right below. When your item is on the menu, you become a confirmed participant !
Dish: Kozhikode Halwa
Category: Dessert / Sweet
Type: Veg
Description: A chewy, flavorful sweet from Kerala made with flour, ghee, and jaggery or sugar.
I brought the same thing
Dish - Banana Jaggery Chips (Sharkarapuratti)
Category: Snack
Type: Veg
Description: Banana and jaggery based snack from Kerala
Dish: Banarasi chana ghughni
Category: veg starter
Description: black chana cooked with indian spices , a semi dry starter . People usually pair it with halwa .
Will happen in what we call the “workshop” room. First floor. Above Audi 1. Basically if you are in the main lobby, come left, climb stairs. It’s the room room on the right. (If you go left after stairs, that’s the “quiet room” btw).
Ah ! We missed you. We were there till 1:45-1:50 PM actually. That’s when we realized the entire video livestream team is in the potluck and had to run to the open data devroom
But we had good fun. We also invited some more folks to sample the food (including some old FOSS friends and cheerleader like @Vasundhar ). As usual took some pictures, and a video too - where I was shouting “this is the inaugural IndiaFOSS potluck” or something like that. Just in case this ends up becoming an annual affair - I can look back and show people this video.
PS: @Yashi_srivastava thanks for the ghugni too. We ate a good chunk of it at the end of the event.
