Hi! Some of us in the OSM India community noticed that IndiaFOSS 2025 uses an osm.org shortlink (i.e. osm.org/go/…) for the location.
I appreciate the aim of avoiding proprietary software like Google Maps. However, osm.org is (somewhat controversially) designed for OSM contributors rather than end users.
I’d like to suggest that OsmAPP be used instead -
- It has vector tiles rather than raster tiles, so it looks nicer and supports localization.
- It has clickable places, and shows details in a more user-friendly manner.
- It shows photos from Wikimedia Commons.
- It renders 3D buildings and multi-level indoor data (try the indoor layer for NIMHANS
) - It has satellite imagery layers.
Here’s NIMHANS Convention Center on OsmAPP.
Similarly, an OsmAPP link could be used for the upcoming FOSS Meetup Delhi - the venue was added to OSM by yours truly around 5 months ago ![]()
Thank you!
