FOSS Club IIIT Kalyani

Weekly Meetups Report June 2024

  1. Aim:
The primary aim was to engage more people in the community and create a more inclusive environment. We aimed to foster collaboration, encourage the exchange of ideas, and build a supportive network for all members. Additionally, we sought to introduce newcomers to FOSS
    principles and practices.

  2. **Planning & Conduction Duty Assigned: @Subhradeep & @Riyansh_Jain

  3. Initiatives Taken:

    • Created polls in the public Telegram channel to ask members for the most suitable time for
      meetups, ensuring higher engagement

    • Posted updates (date, time, topic/agenda) regarding weekly meets on all social media platforms (X, LinkedIn, Telegram, Instagram, WhatsApp) 24 hours before the meet

    • Frequently discussed in our public channels, encouraging people to join weekly meetups

    • Developed a feedback mechanism to continually improve the meetups based on participant input

  4. Number of Meetups:
We conducted a total of 3 weekly meetups on 9th June, 16th June, and 23rd June, moderated and maintained by @Subhradeep & @Riyansh_Jain . These meetups were very successful in terms of inclusivity, interaction, and attracting new members. Participants freely shared their tech stacks, journeys, and experiences in their fields.

  5. Topics of Each Meetup:

    • 9th June: Open discussion
    • 16th June: Opportunities in FOSS & Open discussion
    • 23rd June: Open discussion
  6. What We Achieved:
Through these weekly meetups, we achieved more than expected. After the 2nd weekly meet, we gained significant attention and love from the community. The number of participants increased notably, and our social media channels, especially Telegram, saw a rise in enthusiasts. The frequency of interactions in the public Telegram channel increased, with many members sharing and discussing topics related to tech and open-source projects.

  7. Future Scope:

    • Expand the reach of our meetups by collaborating with other FOSS clubs and organizations

    • Introduce themed meetups focusing on specific technologies or projects

    • Conduct workshops and hands-on sessions to provide practical experience

    • Develop a mentorship program to support newcomers and guide them in their open-source journey

    • Continue to improve based on feedback and strive to create a more engaging and inclusive community
